Overview
Packit is a developer utility written in Go that consolidates multiple code files into a single compact file. It's designed for working with large language models where inputting entire codebases as prompts can be challenging — Packit merges your source files with comment headers marking file boundaries.
Configuration is via a simple packit.yaml file in your project root. Specify input patterns (glob-based file matching like */.swift) and output settings (target file path and comment symbol). Packit scans the matched files and produces a single output file with each source file's content preceded by a comment identifying its original path.
This is particularly useful for providing code context to AI assistants like Claude — instead of copying files one by one, run packit and paste the consolidated output. The tool respects .gitignore patterns and handles large codebases efficiently with streaming file processing.
