Overview
LLM Issue Labeler is a GitHub Action that uses OpenAI's language models with structured outputs to automatically label and classify GitHub issues. When a new issue is created, the action analyses the title and description, applies relevant labels, and categorises it as Bug, Feature, or Task.
The action comes with sensible default labels (bug, enhancement, documentation, help wanted, question) and supports custom labels with descriptions tailored to your project. It uses OpenAI's structured output feature for reliable JSON responses, automatically creates missing labels in your repository, and includes graceful error handling with detailed logging.
Add it to any repository's workflow with a few lines of YAML — point it at your OpenAI API key and optionally define custom labels. The action handles the full lifecycle: reading the issue, calling the model, parsing the structured response, and applying labels and type classifications through the GitHub API.
