Overview
i18n MCP is a Model Context Protocol server for managing .po (Portable Object) translation files through AI assistants. It exposes four tools: list all PO files in a directory tree, get untranslated terms from a specific file, look up existing translations, and add or update translation entries.
Built in Go and distributed as a binary or macOS pkg installer, the server plugs into Claude Desktop or any MCP-compatible client. Point it at a project directory and an AI assistant can survey your translation coverage, identify missing strings, and fill in translations — all through natural conversation.
The server handles the PO file parsing and modification, respecting the file format's comment blocks, plural forms, and context markers. This makes it practical for large codebases with hundreds of translatable strings where manual .po file editing is tedious and error-prone.
