Overview
HK Transportation MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that provides real-time Hong Kong public transit data to AI agents. Built with Go, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, and data from KMB and Citybus APIs, it offers live bus arrival ETAs, nearby stop discovery, route planning, and location search — all accessible through natural language via any MCP client.
The architecture comprises three components: the MCP server exposing transit tools over streamable HTTP, a data importer that syncs routes, stops, and schedules from official APIs into PostgreSQL, and frontend clients (Next.js web and React Native mobile with Expo). Spatial queries use PostGIS to find bus stops within walking distance of any coordinate.
Route planning finds direct bus routes between origin and destination, location search geocodes Hong Kong addresses via Nominatim, and the system supports optional JWT-based OAuth authentication and Redis caching. The mobile app includes iOS Live Activities for real-time arrival tracking.
